STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team is set to 15 individuals to compete in 15 different events at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Naperville, Ill., beginning this Friday (March 10).

Senior
Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) will compete in three events at the Indoor Championships. He enters the meet as the top-seed in the long jump, the third-seed in the triple jump and fifth in the 60-meter dash. Williams had the top men's long jump in the country when he broke a school and conference record with a leap of 7.62 meters (25' 0"). He qualified for nationals in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.86 meters (48' 9") at Carthage on March 3. Williams ran a 6.83 in the 60-meter dash at the WIAC Championships to earn a spot at nationals.
Fellow senior
Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville) will run in a pair of races at the NCAA meet. She is the nine-seed in the 800-meter run after running a 2:13.94 at the WIAC Championships to qualify. Derks will join
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union),
Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, WI/Kimberly) and
Sarah Vils (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) in the 4x400-meter relay after the quartet ran a 3:55.42 at the conference meet.
Three other seniors,
Abby Clement (Reedsburg, WI/Reedsburg),
Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) and
Jesse Johnson (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) will compete at nationals. Clement will run in the 60-meter dash after a qualifying time of 7.78 seconds at the WIAC Championships. Heil made the NCAA meet in the weight throw after launching an 18.36 meters (60' 3") throw at the Pointer Final Qualifier. Johnson will compete in the pole vault after clearing the bar at the UW-Oshkosh Quadrangular with a qualifying height of 4.91 meters (16' 1.25").
Juniors
Brent Reierson (Watertown, WI/Watertown) and
Darin Ward (Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary's Springs) will battle in the shot put and the 60meter hurdles, respectively. Reierson advanced with a distance of 16.38 meters (53' 9") at the Pointer Final Qualifier. Ward ran a time of 8.19 seconds at the WIAC Championships to qualify.
Sophomore
Isabella Weekly (Plainfield, WI/Tri County) qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the high jump and the long jump. Her height of 1.71 meters (5' 7.25") at the WIAC Championships place her as the eight-seed in the high jump at nationals. She leaped a qualifying distance of 5.76 meters (18' 10.75") in the long jump at the UW-Oshkosh Quadrangular.
Fellow sophomores
Mackenzie James (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) and
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, WI/Viroqua) are headed to nationals. James advanced with a long jump distance of 7.18 meters (23' 6.75") at the Carthage Final Qualifier. Lee scored 4,795 in the heptathlon at the WIAC Championships to qualify for the NCAA meet.
Christian Ferguson (Milwaukee, Wis./SCTE) and
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) are a pair of freshmen headed to the NCAA Championships for the Pointers. Ferguson hit a qualifying height of 2.06 meters (6' 9") in the high jump at the Pointer Alumni Open. Momont is seeded third in the pentathlon after securing a spot with 3,394 points to win the event at the WIAC Championships.
