Pointers Cross Country and Track & Field Receive Twelve Academic All-District Honorees

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Mateo Alvarado Venegas (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), Mike Brown (Butternut, Wis./Butternut), Sean Heetland (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora), Dean Montour (Middleton, Wis./Middleton), Logan Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls), Jorden Ukpong (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest), Ella Arenz (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield), Judith Meister (Darlington, Wis./Darlington), Elida Nerothin (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), Melanie Princl (West Bend, Wis./West), Abby Rudrud (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and Lindsey Taylor (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) of the UW-Stevens Point men's and women's cross country and track & field teams were recognized as College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees, the organization announced Tuesday (June 23).

Alvarado Venegas picked up his first Academic All-District recognition. The sophomore finished 16th regionally and 60th nationally in cross country, finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 47th regionally and 256th nationally in the indoor mile run, 18th regionally and 83rd nationally in the indoor 3,000-meter run, 11th regionally and 62nd nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run, 14th regionally and 71st nationally in the outdoor 5,000-meter run and 6th regionally and 20th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run. This season, Alvarado Venegas was named USTFCCCA All-Region in cross country and the outdoor 10,000-meter run, he also earned USTFCCCA All-America Second-Team honors in the 10,000-meter run.
 
Brown earned his second-straight Academic All-District honor. The senior finished 22nd regionally and 162nd nationally in cross country, finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 16th regionally and 125th nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run, 37th regionally and 196th nationally in the outdoor 5,000-meter run and 11th regionally and 49th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run. This season, Brown was named USTFCCCA All-Region in cross country.
 
Heetland picked up his first Academic All-District recognition. The sophomore finished 35th regionally and 153rd nationally in cross country, finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 19th regionally and 85th nationally in the indoor 3,000-meter run, 29th regionally and 139th nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run, 45th regionally and 307th nationally in the outdoor 1,500-meter run and 24th regionally and 119th nationally in the outdoor 5,000-meter run. This season, Heetland was named USTFCCCA All-Region in cross country.
 
Montour earned his second-straight Academic All-District honor. The junior finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 44th regionally and 240th nationally in the indoor mile run, 20th regionally and 86th nationally in the indoor 3,000-meter run, 14th regionally and 104th nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run, 30th regionally and 160th nationally in the outdoor 5,000-meter run and 14th regionally and 54th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run.
 
Murphy picked up his first Academic All-District recognition. The junior finished 19th regionally and 64th nationally in cross country, finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 40th regionally and 210th nationally in the indoor mile run, 17th regionally and 76th nationally in the indoor 3,000-meter run, 4th regionally and 25th nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run, 2nd regionally and 7th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run. This season Murphy was recognized as the men's cross country WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-7, the men's outdoor track WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 23-29, USTFCCCA All-Region in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, he also earned USTFCCCA All-America Second-Team honors in the 10,000-meter run.
 
Ukpong earned his first Academic All-District honor. The sophomore finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 8th regionally and 16th nationally in the indoor shot put, 25th regionally and 75th nationally in the indoor weight throw, 10th regionally and 27th nationally in the outdoor shot put and 14th regionally and 26th nationally in the outdoor discus throw. This season, Ukpong was recognized as the men's outdoor field WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 23-29, USTFCCCA All-Region for the indoor track and field season and earned USTFCCCA All-America First-Team honors in the indoor shot put.
 
Arenz picked up her first Academic All-District recognition. The sophomore finished the indoor track and field season ranked 46th regionally and 279th nationally in the 800-meter run.
 
Meister earned her second-straight Academic All-District honor. The junior finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 46th regionally and 307th nationally in the indoor 5,000-meter run and 26th regionally and 176th nationally in the outdoor 10,000-meter run.
 
Nerothin picked up her first Academic All-District recognition. The sophomore finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 32nd regionally and 163rd nationally in the indoor 400-meter dash and 24th regionally and 117th nationally in the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. Nerothin was also a member of the indoor 4x400-meter relay that was ranked ninth regionally and 95th nationally and the outdoor 4x400-meter relay that was ranked 9th regionally and 109th nationally.
 
Princl earned her first Academic All-District honor. The sophomore finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 41st regionally and 226th nationally in the indoor 60-meter dash, 6th regionally and 42nd nationally in the indoor 60-meter hurdles, 4th regionally and 26th nationally in the outdoor 100-meter hurdles, she was also a member of the outdoor 4x100-meter relay that was ranked 13th regionally and 165th nationally. Princl was recognized as the women's indoor track WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 12-18, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the indoor and outdoor seasons as well as claiming the WIAC 100-meter hurdles title in May.
 
Rudrud picked up her first Academic All-District recognition. The junior finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 29th regionally and 79th nationally in the indoor shot put and 25th regionally and 69th nationally in the outdoor shot put.
 
Taylor earned her second-straight Academic All-District honor. The junior finished the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons ranked 18th regionally and 89th nationally in the indoor long jump and 38th regionally and 241st nationally in the outdoor javelin throw.
 
Student athletes selected must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, be a sophomore and will be eligible based off TFRRS regional performance rankings at the time of nomination. Note: Only individual ranked performances are to be used for eligibility. If a student-athlete has participated in a RELAY EVENT, that can bolster the nomination but the basic criteria to be met is for INDIVIDUAL performances. Relays cannot be the basis for eligibility.

    • Cross Country - Top-50 individual performance at the 2024 NCAA regional competition 
    • Track - Top-50 regional ranking in single event (indoor or outdoor)
