Pointer Men Finish Third at Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse. The men finished 3rd with a score of 121 and the women finished 7th with a score of 22.66.
 
Results
 
The men were led by Jack Gjovik (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines), Mason Mead (Wausau, Wis./West), Ethan Vandermeer, Tyler Nosko (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka), Austin Rennhack (Columbus, Wis./Columbus), Casey Ploederl (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) and Reid Rydzewski (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake).
 
Gjovik won the triple jump with a mark of 14.31.
 
Mead finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.83.
 
Vandermeer posted a second-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:52.44.
 
Nosko took third in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:56.51.
 
Rennhack heaved a mark of 16.62 meters in the shot put to take third.
 
Ploederl and Rydzewski were a part of a four-way tie for third in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 meters.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Will Garcia-Henrich, Mead, Ben Kempe (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Bennett Krause (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) took second with a time of 3:22.48.
 
The women were led by Lindsey Taylor (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), Audrey Rabitz (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Guadalupe Corn (Keshena, Wis./Menominee Indian).
 
Taylor placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters.
 
Rabitz took sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.38.
 
Corn posted a mark of 12.16 meters to finish sixth in the shot put.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Jaimie Deschand (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), Ashlee Lord (La Grange, Ill./LaSalle-Peru), Lindsey Jossie (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) and Margaret Hopkins (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph) finished fifth with a time of 4:28.80.
 
The UWSP men's and women's track and field teams are back in action on Friday (Apr. 25) for the Drake Alternative at UW-Whitewater, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
