UWSP Track and Field Qualifies 14 for NCAA Outdoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team will be sending 14 athletes to next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships, the NCAA announced on Friday (May 21),  The Pointers have eight men and six women who qualified in 19 events.

Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) is UWSP's highest seed on the men's side with the fourth-best mark in the triple jump this season.  He set his mark at the UW-Platteville Invitational on April 10.
 
Alex Poncelet (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) is the sixth-seed in the hammer throw and seventh in the discus. He will be joined in the hammer throw by teammates Dylan Delaney (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) (12th) and Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) (14th).
 
Mike Ayensu-Mensah (Appleton, Wis./North) will compete in the high jump after posting the ninth-best mark in the country on Wednesday at the UWL Final Qualifier.  Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) also notched his qualifying time this week and will compete in the 400-meter dash.
 
Nick Chesterman (Sun Prairie, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) is the 16th seed in the decathlon after posting a qualifying score on April 16 at the Warhawk Invitational and Multi.
 
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) will compete in both the 110- and 400-meter hurdles.  He is the 16-seed in both events.
 
On the women's side, Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) is the fourth-ranked high jump athlete.  She will also compete in the heptathlon as the four-seed after posting a school record in the event at the WIAC Championships.  She will be joined in the event by teammate Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) (14th).
 
Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) is the eight-seed in the 400-meter hurdles. She posted her qualifying time at the WIAC Championships.   Abby Nelson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) also reached her qualification mark at the WIAC Championships.  She is the 10th-ranked pole vaulter.
 
Paige Allemann (Waumandee, Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City) posted her qualifying time in the 3000-meter steeplechase last week at the Dr. Keeler Invite.  She is the 11-seed in the event.
 
Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire, Wis./North) will be busy at the NCAA Championships.  She qualified to compete in the shot put (17th), discus throw (13th) and the hammer throw (15th).
 
The NCAA Championships begin on Thursday (May 27) on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.  Events get underway at 10:30 a.m. ET.
