Tyler, Gonzales earn all-region honors as cross country competes at regionals

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A 17th-place finish from Dane Tyler (Janesville, WI/Parker), which qualified him for the national meet, led the UW-Stevens Point men's cross country team to ninth and a 40th-place finish by Holly Winberg (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake) led the women to 18th at the 2015 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Saukie Golf Course.

NOTABLES
By virtue of being among the top-35 finishers, Tyler and Gonzales each earned All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Both runners collected the honor for the first time in their UWSP careers.

Tyler's 17th-place finish means he will be competing at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21. It will be his first appearance at the natinoal meet.
 
The men finished with a total of 193 points, which put the Pointers 19 points behind eighth-place Washington University in St. Louis and 94 points ahead of 10th-place UW-Stout. Seven of the eight teams to finish ahead of UWSP were ranked in the latest USTFCCA rankings.
 
The women totaled 516 points in the team standings, just two behind 17th-place UW-Whitewater and nine ahead of 19th-place Carthage.

UP NEXT
The NCAA will announce the field for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Sunday at 2 p.m. The championships will be held at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne on Saturday, Nov. 21.
