OSHKOSH, Wis. - Freshman
Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) won the individual title in the triple jump as the UW-Stevens Point men's outdoor track and field team finished seventh at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at UW-Oshkosh.
Full ResultsWilliams won the event with a jump of 14.50 meters in the final. As a team, the Pointers took seventh with 69 points, six behind sixth-place UW-Stout. UW-La Crosse won the meet for the 24th year in a row with 215 points.
UW-Stevens Point also had a pair of third-place individual finishes. Freshman
Michael Evans (Reedsville, WI/Valders) took third in the 800 meter run (1:55.02), while sophomore
Justin Hemshrot (Shell Lake, WI/Shell Lake) placed third in the pole vault (4.69m, 15' 4.5").
The 4x400 meter relay team of
Brian Ironmonger (Oregon, WI/Oregon),
Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin),
Alec Oestreich (Merrill, WI/Merrill) and
Nicholas Melotte (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:22.14.
Freshman
Tanner Russell (Farmer City, IL/Farmer City) took fourth in the high jump (1.95m, 6' 4.75"), while fellow freshmen
Zach Haskins (Whitewater, WI/Whitewater ) (51.59m, 169' 3") and Tate Yugla (50.80m, 166' 8") finished fourth and fifth in the javelin throw, respectively.
In the decathlon, sophomore Nick Geiger was second in both the high jump and pole vault and finished fifth overall with 6,154 points.
The Pointers compete at the Dr. Keeler Invite in Naperville, Ill. on Friday, May 9.
