WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's outdoor track and field team won the Rex Foster Invitational on Sunday behind two event wins and nine runner-up finishes.
ResultsUW-Stevens Point tallied 186 points in the meet, 35 more than second-place and host UW-Whitewater.
Matt Gerber (Tomahawk, WI/Tomahawk) ran to a second-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.75 seconds.
Daniel Ostrowski (Wautoma, WI/Wautoma) was the runner-up in the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.54 seconds.
Brian Ironmonger (Oregon, WI/Oregon) (51.18) and
Ryan Wierzba (Rosholt, WI/Rosholt) (51.23) also finished in the top five, coming in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Dennis Haak (Belleville, WI/Belleville) recorded another runner-up finish for the Pointers by taking second in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 1:56.74.
Michael Evans (Reedsville, WI/Valders) won the 1,500 meter run in 4:01.43, more than seven seconds ahead of the next runner.
Alexander Gonzales (15:36.70) and
David Hebert (Iron River, MI/West Iron County) (15:38.18) finished second and third in the 5,000 meter run.
UW-Stevens Point took the top three spots in the 4x400-meter relay. Ironmonger, Ostrowski,
Nicholas Melotte (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) and
Alec Oestreich (Merrill, WI/Merrill) won the event in 3:25.28. The teams of Wierzba, Haak, Evans and
Dane Tyler (Janesville, WI/Parker) (3:29.03) and
Zach Yindra (Appleton, WI/Kimberly),
Nicholas Kielpinski (Middleton, WI/Middleton),
Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin) and
Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) (3:29.59) were not far behind.
Nick Michalske (Wausau, WI/Newman Catholic) and
Justin Hemshrot (Shell Lake, WI/Shell Lake) tied for second in the pole vault, each clearing 4.52 meters (14' 10").
In the triple jump,
Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) was the runner-up by jumping 13.98 meters.
Micky Flynn (Appleton, WI/North) won the discus throw with a 47.33 meter (155'3") toss in the finals.
Tate Yugla claimed runner-up status in the javelin throw with a distance of 50.61 meters (166').
The Pointers compete at the Platteville Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
