Witkowski and Heroux post provisional times at Meet of Champions

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – In some of the worst weather conditions head coach Rick Witt had seen in his 42 years of coaching, the UW-Stevens Point men's track & field team managed a third place finish at the 2011 Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Sunday. 

Sleet, rain, high winds, snow and lightning dominated the event.

Highlights from the day included:

Terry Witkowski (Wales/Kettle Moraine) and Joel Heroux (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) posted NCAA provisional times in the 10,000 meter run with times of 30:34.36 and 30:58.16, respectively. 

Josh Schwinn (Howards Grove/Howards Grove) and Babatunde Awoski finished 2-3 in the 400 meter dash with times of 50.13 and 50.56, respectively. 

David Litsheim (Appleton/East) finished with the top time in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.65. 

Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn) posted a second place finish in the 1500 with a time of 4:04.91.

Tim Thornburg (Delafield/Kettle Moraine) and Derek Nechuta (Mosinee/Mosinee) finished 2-3 in the steeplechase with times of 9:31.85 and 9:32.23, respectively.

Zach Mixdorf (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) finished tied for second in the high jump clearing 2.0 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches)

The Pointers return to the track on April 22 when they head to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
