Pointers Finish Second at Home Invite

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's track & field team posted a second place finish on Saturday afternoon, collecting 174.5 team points at the 2011 Pointer Invitational & Mulit-Event Meet. 

Eight first place finishes aided in the Pointers finish and three individuals and the men's4x400 relay provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Indoor championships. 

The first qualifier of the day was Joshua Schwinn (Howards Grove/Howards Grove), who posted an NCAA provisional time of 49.51 in the men's 400 meter dash, also the event's top time. Jesse Klotz (Plymouth/Plymouth) posted the best throw in the men's shot put, and his distance of 15.85 meters also provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA championships. 

Brian Thill (Webster/Webster) finished first in the indoor pentathlon and with his mark of 3505.00, provisionally qualifies for the NCAA championships. Thill posted a second place finish in the long jump (6.38 meters), first place finish in the shot put (12.57 meters) and a second in the high jump (2.00 meters) to secure the pentathlon victory. 

The final qualifier of the day was the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Zach Scott-Keyser (Rockford, IL/Rockford Jefferson), Andrew Jacobs (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee), Tom Wenzler (Delafield/Kettle Moraine) and Joshua Schwinn (Howards Grove/Howards Grove) who posted the best time of the day with their mark of 3:20.90. 

Elsewhere, Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn) finished with the top time in the men's one mile run, finishing in 4:16.73, Terry Witkowski (Wales/Kettle Moraine) finished second in the men's 3000 meter run, posting a time of 8:35.90, Zach Mixdorf (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) finished with the top distance in the high jump clearing 1.95 meters, Cody White (Madison/La Follette) posted the top distance in the men's triple jump with his jump of 13.80 meters and Brian Jensen (Kenosha, WI/Bradford) posted the top time in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 15:56.87.

The Pointers return to action Feb. 12 when they head to UW-Platteville for the Platteville Invitational.
