Results

OSHKOSH – UW-Stevens Point's Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake/Rib Lake) surpassed his previous qualifying mark in the hammer throw and the team collected 86 points on Saturday afternoon on their way to a fourth place finish at the 2010 Oshkosh Invitational at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh took home the team title with 205 points while Central College (Iowa) finished second. UW-Platteville finished third at the seven team event.

Prusinski finished first in the hammer throw with his toss of 58.05 meters (190'5”), earning the Pointers ten team points. The distance improves on his earlier automatic qualifying mark of 57.02 meters.  He now holds the nation's fourth best distance in the event.

Kyle Scofield (Green Bay/Preble) also took home 10 team points for UWSP with his first place toss of 16.99 meters (55'9”) in the shot put. His distance was just .01 meters short of the NCAA's automatic qualifying standard for this spring's outdoor championships, but his mark was good enough to provisionally qualify. He now owns the fifth best distance in the nation in the event.

Kris Riggs (Stevens Point/SPASH) posted a time of 14.94 in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing .19 seconds ahead of the field to take home the event title. That mark is just .06 seconds short of the provisional qualifying time in the event.

Three pointers finished in the top-5 of the triple jump, but it was Chris Petrie (Glenbeulah/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah)'s jump of 13.45m (44' 1.5”) that took home first place in the event. Robert Hendricks (Suamico, WI/Bay Port) and Stephon Freeman (Racine/Lane Tech) finished 4-5 respectively, earning six team points.

Elsewhere, Zach Scott-Keyser (Rockford, IL/Rockford Jefferson) finished third in the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 21.82 seconds. Andy Jacobs (Mosinee/Mosinee) finished with a time of 58.40 seconds in the men's 400 meter hurdles, good for second place and eight team points. In the men's 800 meter run, Nick Schaefer (New London/New London) finished second, posting a time of 1:59.83.

The Pointers will now head to UW-River Falls and the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships on May 7-8. The Pointer men's track & field team enters the weekend in search of their fifth league title in program history. The last league title for the Pointers came back in 1977.
