WHITEWATER –
Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake) placed first in the hammer throw at the Rex Foster Warhawk Open as the Pointers men's track and field teams finished fourth out of 12 teams on Saturday.
UW-Whitewater finished first with 163 team points. Wisconsin placed second with 157 points and UW-Oshkosh came in third with 102. UW-Stevens Point scored 74.5 points in the meet.
Prusinski's first place throw of 57.02 meters was 3.04 meters longer than his next competitor, Pete Delzer of UW-Oshkosh.
In other field events, the Pointers were able to take home second and third place finishes in the triple jump.
Cody White (Madison) placed second, ahead of teammate
Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah), with a jump of 13.80 meters. Petrie registered a jump of 13.62 meters.
Kris Riggs (Stevens Point) was the highest individual finisher on the track, placing second in the 110 meter hurdles with a final time of 15.51. In the 3000 meter steeplechase,
Logan Seipel (Colfax)'s time of 10:07.48 was enough for a fourth place finish.
Andy Jacobs (Mosinee) and
David Paugels (Wautoma) added to the Pointers team score with fourth and fifth place finishes in the 400 meter hurdles. Jacobs' final time was 57.56 and Paugels was right behind with a time of 57.85.
The 4x100 meter relay team was able to edge out Beloit College by .51 seconds, placing second with a time of 45.24. In the 4x400 meter relay the Pointers placed third behind UW-Whitewater and Carroll University with a time of 3:27.37.
UW-Stevens Point will now travel to Oshkosh on Saturday, May 1st when they will compete in the Oshkosh Qualifier.
