Thornburg, Litsheim Finish First, Team Places Fourth

ROCK ISLAND, Ill - Timothy Thornburg (Delafield) and David Litsheim (Appleton) both took home first place finishes in their events at the Augustania Invitational, but it was not enough to take home a team first as they finished fourth out of 11 teams Saturday afternoon.

Augustana College won the meet with 248.5 team points while UW-Oshkosh scored 166.5 for second place and UW-Whitewater took home third with 118 points.

Thornburg edged out teammate Derek Nechuta (Mosinee) in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.89 to take home first. Nechuta finished just behind Thornburg as he posted a time of 9:25.44 for second.

Point took home first and third place in the 800 meter run with Lithsheim edging out UW-Whitewater's Aron Kehoe with a final time of 1:51.15. Adam Lang (Sheboygan) finished in a time of 1:52.51, good enough for third.

Other top finishers for the Pointers were Kris Riggs (Stevens Point), Nick Schaefer (New London), Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah) and the 4x400 meter relay team.

Riggs took home a second place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.38. In the 1500 meter run Point's Schaefer held off Sean Carmondy from Augustana College to finish second in a time of 3:57.50.

The 4x400 meter relay team fell short of UW-Whitewater's time of 3:17.23 finishing in 3:17.50 and took home third place. Augustana College finished first with a time of 3:16.88.

Petrie was the only Pointer to place in the top three in the field events. He finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.99 meters.

UW-Stevens Point will compete next in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, IA on April 23rd and 24th. Start time for the event is still to be determined.
