GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The UW-Stevens Point men's distance medley relay team took home a NCAA Championship and four others finished in the top-10 as the Pointers placed second at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship March 12-13.
The Pointers edged out UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh, scoring 34 points compared to their 31.5 and 31 points respectfully. North Central College (Ill.) finished first with 52.33 points.
The distance medley team of
Adam Lang (Sheboygan),
Nick Dax (Green Bay),
Alex Steiner (Chilton) and
Phil Richert (Andover, MN) edged out Trinity University (Texas) with a time of 10:02.38. In the final two laps Richert was able to make up a half-track deficit to finish first by just 0.7 seconds.
Joshua Schwinn (Howards Grove),
David Litsheim (Appleton), Dax and Lang were members of the 4x400 meter relay who finished third with a time of 3:18.03 ahead of UW-River Falls' 3:18.13 mark.
Litsheim also finished third in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 1:52.88. He finished behind Aron Kehoe of UW-Whitewater and Nick Zeien of UW-River Falls who finished first and second respectfully.
After his heroics in the distance medley relay, Richert came back to run in the 5,000 meter event where he placed sixth with a time of 14:53.04.
Kyle Scofield (Green Bay) was the only Pointer to place in the field events. In the shot put his 16.79 meter throw was good enough for a second place finish.
Also qualifying for the Pointers was
Keith Ingram (Milwaukee) in the 55 meter run,
Mike Dellemann (Oregon) in the 55 meter hurdles and
Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah) in the triple jump.
UW-Stevens Point will now begin their outdoor season at the First Chance Meet – North Central in Napervill, IL April 3rd.
