PLATTEVILLE – The Pointer men's indoor track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's USTFCCCA poll, collected 116 team points to finish third behind UW-La Crosse's 166.5 and UW-Eau Claire's 119.5 points at the 2010 WIAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse captured its ninth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship at UW-Platteville's Pioneer Activity Center on Feb. 27-28.
The Eagles, who own a conference-high 35 first-place trophies, claimed this year's crown with 144.50 team points to nip UW-Oshkosh's second-place total of 141 points. UW-Stevens Point finished third with 116 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 94 points, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 90 points, UW-Platteville sixth with 41.50 points, UW-River Falls seventh with 39 points, UW-Stout eighth with 29 points and UW-Superior ninth with 7 points. The margin of victory matched the 1989 event for the second-closest in the 42-year history of the championship.
UW-La Crosse captured three individual and two relay crowns enroute to this year's championship. Connor Lonning was victorious in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:11.48, while Kellen McCrary claimed the long jump with a leap of 23-7 1/4 and Dave Pergande secured the pole vault with a height of 15-4 1/4.
The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay squad of Paul Yerhot, Aric Hoeschen, Terrance Thigpen and Alex Rooker produced a winning time of 3:19.03. Brian Shonat, Ryan Mendez, McCauley Kraker and Bruce Schmitz secured the distance medley relay with a performance of 10:23.47.
UW-Oshkosh produced five first-place finishes at the league festival. Ben Zill was a double-winner, successfully defending his title in the pentathlon with 3,699 points and earning the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.70.
Alex DeWitt became the first Titan to win the 200-meter dash at the WIAC championship, producing a time of 22.38. Tony Baker secured the shot put with a heave of 54-0 and Ben Ludtke claimed the 35-pound weight throw with a fling of 64-5 3/4.
UW-Stevens Point's Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) won his second straight title in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.39, while David Litsheim (Appleton/East) captured the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.86 and Mike Dellemann (Oregon/Oregon) earned the 55-meter hurdles with a performance of 7.65.
The Pointers' 4x200-meter relay quartet of Zach Scott-Keyser (Rockford, IL/Rockford Jefferson), Ernest Edmond (Southfield, MI/Southfield Lathrup), Tom Wenzler (Delafield/Kettle Moraine) and Ingram produced a winning effort of 1:29.30.
UW-Eau Claire's Chris Wirtz won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:34.42, while UW-Platteville's Patrick Klein was victorious in the one-mile run with a clocking of 4:13.59 and UW-Whitewater's Luke Buchholz claimed the high jump with a height of 6-8 3/4.
UW-Stout's Sean Larson received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire's Corrie Floyd, UW-La Crosse's Patrick Bryan, UW-Oshkosh's Brent Jude, UW-Platteville's Jon Balciar, UW-River Falls' Jesse Walters, UW-Stevens Point's Christopher Petrie, UW-Stout's Adam Sawinski, UW-Superior's Chad Kucza and UW-Whitewater's Mike Rossbach.
