STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team used seven first place finishes to rack up 147.5 points and take first place in the Pointer Eastbay Invitational in the Multi-Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.
UW-Eau Claire was a distant second with 129 total points while UW-Whitewater placed third with 87.5.
Junior
Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) was the big winner on the afternoon placing first in two events. Ingram used a time of 6.45 seconds in the 55 meter dash and a 22.23 second place finish in the 200 meter dash to claim his two first places.
Joshua Schwinn (Howards Grove/Howards Grove) and Michael Dellemann were also first place finishers in their individual events. Schwinn's of 49.92 seconds was good enough to defeat UW-Eau Claire's Patrick Mackin by 0.04 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Dellemann ran away from his competition in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.64 seconds.
The Pointers also pulled two first place finishes and a second from their medley and relay teams. The distance medley team of
David Litsheim,
Nick Dax (Green Bay/Ashwaubenon),
Adam Lang (Sheboygan/Sheboygan Lutheran) and
Phil Richert (Andover, MN/Andover) posted a time of 9:56.85. Not only was the time good enough for first place, it is the NCAA top time in the country along with the school and fieldhouse records.
The 4x400 meter relay team also took home a first with a time of 3:18.25. The Pointers were also able to post a second place finish in the 4x200 meter relay, finishing in 1:30.48.
Other notable finishes from the track were turned in by
Derek Nechuta (Mosinee/Mosinee) and
Alex Steiner (Chilton/Chilton) in the 800 meter run. They finished third and fourth with times of 1:56.71 and 1:56.86 respectfully.
In the field events
Christopher Petrie made the most noise. His jump of 14.42 meters was good enough for first place and qualified for the NCAA indoor championships with the sixth best jump in the nation this year. Senior
Cody White (Madison/La Follette) placed third in the event with a 13.82 meter jump.
Kyle Scofield posted a throw of 15.98 meters in the shot put sending him home with a third place finish.
The Pointers will return to action Sunday, February 28th when they travel to Platteville for the WIAC Indoor Championships. Starting time is to be announced.
