STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team hosted the Pointer Quad Saturday afternoon and finished first with an overall score of 239 points, 116 points ahead of their closest competitor.
St. Norbert finished second while Ripon, St. Scholastica and Lawrence finished third through fifth.
Ernest Edmond (Southfield, MI) led the Pointers with two victories on the afternoon by winning the 55 and 200 meter dashes with times of 6.44 and 22.88 seconds.
Other first place finishers on the track included
Joshua Schwinn (Howards Grove) who won the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.25,
David Litsheim (Appleton) in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:51.70,
Mike Dellemann (Oregon) in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.66 and
Phil Richert (Andover, MN) in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:24.05.
Litsheim's time in the 800 was the fastest time in the nation so far this season and was well below the NCAA qualifying time.
Top finishers in the field events included
Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah) in the triple jump with a distance of 14.12 meters and
Kyle Scofield (Green Bay) in the shot put with a toss of 15.63 meters.
The men's team will be back in action February 5th and 6th as they will host the Pointer “Mulit-Event” in the Multi-Activity Center.
