OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team posted a second place finish at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing the two day event with 157 team points. The Pointers captured five event championships including two by
Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside), who was named the Outstanding Track Performer of the Championships.
The Pointers finished 19.5 points behind UW-La Crosse, who captured their 19th straight outdoor title, their 45th overall in the 91-year history of the event.
UW-Whitewater finished in third with 129.5 points while host UW-Oshkosh finished fourth with 106 team points. UW-Platteville finished fifth with 99 team points while UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls and UW-Superior finished 6-9 respectively.
Ingram (Milwaukee) won the 100 and 200-meter dash titles, posting times of 10.89 seconds and 21.72 seconds, respectively, in the two events.
Dominick Meyer (Beloit) also brought a conference championship for the Pointers, posting a time of 30:52.75 seconds in the 10,000-meter run. His time in the event was also a NCAA provisional time.
Mike Dellemann (Oregon) won a championship of his own for the Pointers, finishing with a meet-high 5,992 points in the decathlon. He posted first-place finishes in the long jump, 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and the javelin.
The 1,600-meter relay team of
Nick Dax (Green Bay),
Brad Koback (Amherst),
Adam Lang (Sheboygan) and
Patrick Leonard (Chicago, IL.) won the fourth conference championship for the Pointers, posting a time of 3:19.47 in the event.
Other top finishers from the two-day event included:
Keith Dismuke (Rockford, IL) finished with a NCAA provisional time of 14.86 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Adam Lang (Sheboygan) finished second in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:56.62 seconds, .23 seconds behind UW-Whitewaters Mat Kovnesky for the event title.
The 4x800-meter relay team finished in second with a time of 7:46.82, just over a second behind first place UW-Oshkosh.
Mark Cufaude (Evansville) finished second in the men's pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 10 inches, a NCAA provisional mark. First place finisher Daniel Drewek of UW-Stout cleared 16'2”.
Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah) and
Cody White (Madison) finished third and fifth respectively in the triple jump, as Petrie's jump of 46'1.0” was also a NCAA provisional mark.
Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake) finished third in the men's hammer throw with a NCAA provisional mark of 179'7”.
Kyle Scofield (Green Bay) finished second in the shot put with a NCAA provisional toss of 52'4.75”.
Travis Nechuta (Mosinee) named to the WIAC Men's All-Sportsmanship Team.
