Eleven Pointers Punch Their Tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's track and field teams had seven individuals and one relay team qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse, beginning on May 21.
 
Logan Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls), Mateo Alvarado Venegas (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), Gavin Fujino (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake) and Jack Marsh (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) were the four men's individual qualifiers. Murphy and Alvarado Venegas both qualified for the 10,000-meter run with times of 29:26.25 at the WashU Distance Carnival and 29:52.09 at the WIAC Outdoor Championships, respectively. Fujino earned a nationals pole vault spot with a mark of 5.01 meters at the UWL Final Qualifier. Marsh claimed his qualifying mark of 58.55 meters in the hammer throw at the UW-La Crosse Uncaged Eagle Open.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mason Mead (Wausau, Wis./West), Ben Kempe (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Matthew Jokela (Lake Linden, Mich./Lake Linden-Hubbell) and Simeion Harris (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) earned their spot on the national stage with a time of 3:11.61 at the UW-La Crosse Uncaged Eagle Open.
 
Melanie Princl (West Bend, Wis./West), Faith Wehrman (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and Madeline Zirbel (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) were the women's qualifiers. Princl earned a nationals spot in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 at the WIAC Outdoor Championships. Wehrman claimed her qualifying time of 35:24.97 in the 10,000-meter run at the WIAC Outdoor Championships. Zirbel qualified for the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters earned at the Dick and Mary Johnson Invite.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team, Wehrman, Murphy and Alvarado Venegas will open the Pointers performances of the NCAA Championships on Thursday (May 21) with the relay preliminary round beginning at 6:15 p.m.
