Johnson Joins UWSP Men’s Volleyball Staff

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball coach Philippe Abiad has announced the addition of Gabby Johnson to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
 
Johnson comes to UWSP after a four-year playing career at UW-La Crosse. At UWL, she played in every match in 2021, 2022, 2023 and in 2024 for the Eagles. She completed her career at UWL with 1,061 kills, 11th-best in school history. In 2022 and, again in 2024, Johnson was named to the All-WIAC honorable mention team.
 
She was also a member of the UWL track and field team, three times competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 2023 and 2025, she earned second-team All-America honors in the javelin throw.
 
Prior to UWL, Johnson attended St. Cloud State in 2019-20. There she was a member of the volleyball team in 2019. She redshirted the season at SCSU. She also competed on the SCSU track and field team during the indoor season.
 
Johnson was the volleyball coach for Velocity Volleyball Club in 2022-23. She has also worked a number of summer camps from 2017 through 2024 at SPASH, St. Cloud State and UW-La Crosse.
 
A native of Plover, she graduated from UW-La Crosse in May 2024 with a bachelor's degree in communication with a minor in sociology. Johnson is the daughter of UWSP wrestling coach Johnny Johnson.
