LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (14-11) earned a pair of wins by sweep over Judson (7-15) and host Viterbo (7-18) on Saturday.
Ben Feld (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) were in double figures in assists in both matches totalling 25 apiece on the day.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) recorded 13 kills against Judson.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, Judson 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21)
Five different Pointers had a kill each as UWSP built a 9-4 lead.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) and
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) had two kills apiece for an 18-10 lead. Dresen had an ace late to seal the first set win.
Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) served an ace and Niznik had consecutive kills to put UWSP up 6-3 in the second. Niznik served back-to-back aces in a 6-0 run. Niznik served another ace late to put UWSP up, 2-0.
Dresen powered down seven kills in the third set as the Pointers finished the sweep.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, Viterbo 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-15)
Owen Andersen (Racine, Wis./Case) and
Nate Arndorfer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino Grace) each had a kill in a 6-0 run early in the first. Niznik added a pair of kills to put UWSP in front, 18-10. Andersen had two more kills late to give UWSP the opening set.
Dresen served a trio of aces as UWSP took its first lead at 5-4 in the second. Jolin added an ace in a 4-0 burst for an 11-8 lead.
Andrew Yang (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) had two kills late and Jolin served another ace to put UWSP up, 2-0.
Cael Bertrandt (Big Bend, Wis./Mukwonago) had two kills early in the third. Jetzer had two kills and two aces in a 7-1 run.
Josh Drollinger (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and
Alec Peterson (Madison, Wis./Memorial) combined and a block and each had a late kill to complete the sweep.
The Pointers travel to the Westminster Tournament to close out the season beginning on April 3 at 5:00 p.m. against Greenville.
