Cashin’s Trio of Honors Leads All-WIAC Selections for UWSP Football

MADISON, Wis. – Six members of the UW-Stevens Point football team earned All-WIAC honors, the league office announced on Thursday (Nov. 20). Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) earned first-team offense as an all-purpose back, second-team offense as a running back and honorable mention special teams honors. Joe Berens (Wausau, Wis./West) picked up second-team defense, Rhett Loken (Amherst, Wis./Amherst) earned honorable mention offense, Tanner Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Brodie Overbeck (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) were named to the honorable mention defense team and Grant Kirsch (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) grabbed an honorable mention special teams nod. Reed Smith (Powell, Wyo./Powell) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Cashin garners his first career league awards with the trio of honors. He ran the ball a career-high 173 times this season gaining 756 net yards. He scored a team-high and career-best eight touchdowns on the ground, the fifth-most in the conference. He rushed for a season-high 177 yards at Pacific. As a primary kick returner, Cashin tied for the league lead with 28 kickoff returns. He averaged 26.0 yards per return, the third-best average in the WIAC. He made a 97-yard return for a touchdown against St. Norbert, the fourth-longest in program history and Cashin earned WIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors that week.
 
Berens earns his first conference award after playing all 40 games in his career. He led the Pointers in tackles with 96, the second-most in the conference and most by a Pointer since 2021. Berens also racked up a team-high 14 tackles for loss and four sacks. He notched a career-best 3.0 sacks against UW-Whitewater this season. He also recorded the only safety of the year for UWSP against UW-Oshkosh.
 
Loken picks up his first career league award. He started all 10 games at left tackle for the Pointers.
 
Mrotek snags his first career conference honor. He recorded 30 tackles on the season. He had 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, third-best on the team in both categories.
 
Overbeck grabs his first career league honor as well. He had 29 total tackles and was second on the team in both tackles for loss and sacks with 7.5 and 3.0, respectively.
 
Kirsch gets his first career conference accolade. He played in all 10 games as the long snapper on field goals, extra points and punts, successful on all attempts this season. He also made three tackles on special teams.
 
Smith earns all-sportsmanship team honors after playing in all 10 games for the fourth-consecutive season. He scored a career-best three touchdowns this season, all on the ground. Smith ran the ball 55 times for 188 yards. He also made three receptions for 18 yards.
 
The Pointers won four games this season, the most since 2018, and earned the first conference win since 2019.
