STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (4-6, 1-6) finished its season with a 52-0 loss to No. 14/17 UW-La Crosse (7-2, 5-2) on Saturday.
The Pointers' offense was held to 167 yards of total offense, the second-lowest of the season. Senior quarterback
Charlie Smith (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had seven completions. Fellow senior
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) had a team-high 12 rushes for 34 yards.
UWSP's defense was led by senior
Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) and
Joe Berens (Wausau, Wis./West). Luedtke had a team-high 13 tackles and had a forced fumble. Berens added 11 tackles. Fellow senior
Brodie Overbeck (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) had the lone sack of the day for the Pointers.
The Eagles scored touchdowns on their second and third drives of the game to put UWSP in a 14-0 hole.
Austin Phillips (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) completed a pass to Cashin for the only first down of the first quarter for the Pointers. UWL made it 21-0 by the end of the first.
UWL scored a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter while holding the Pointers without a first down. UWSP did force a fumble with just over four minutes left in the half. Senior
Carter Dahlke (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) forced the fumble and fellow senior
Tanner Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) recovered it for UWSP.
After the Eagles pushed the deficit to 38-0, Smith had a pair of completions for first downs, but the Pointers were unable to convert the momentum into points.

Drew Viney (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) had a completion for a first down in the third quarter. UWL scored a touchdown late to send the game to the fourth quarter at 45-0.
The Eagles made it 52-0 with 5:14 remaining. The Pointers put together their final drive of the season. Cashin gained a first down with 10 yards on the ground. Viney gained a first down on the ground and two through the air, but the UWSP drive stalled without points.
This season, the Pointers won four games, the most since 2018, and earned the first conference win since 2019.
