Pointer Women 5th, Men 10th at NCAA Midwest Regional

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point cross country teams traveled to St. Olaf College to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Rachel Krouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) led the way for the Pointer women to lead the team to a fifth-place finish. The Pointer men finished in 10th place with Derek Penzkover (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) leading the way for his team.

Krouse finished with a time of 23:02.5 and crossing the finish line in 30th place.

The next Pointer to step across the line was Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay,Wis./Big Foot) in 35th place with a time of 23:11.6, her fastest time of the season. Coming in with a time of 23:41.1 was Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) in 49th place. Finishing one after another in 51st and 52nd place to round out the top five scorers for the Pointers was Catie Gage (Janesville, Wis./Parker) and Paige Allemann (Waumandee, Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City). Gage and Allemann each had their second-best times of the season with times of 23:45.9 and 23:48.8. As a team, they finished 5th out of a field of 33 teams.

In the men's race, the first Pointer to finish was Penzkover in 46th place with a time of 25:46.2, his fastest finish of the season.

Just the second runner behind Penzkover was John Lee (Madison, Wis./Madison West) finishing in 48th place with his fastest time of the season of 25:46.6. Ryan Reed (Madison, Wis./West) was next to cross the finish line in 50th place, also finishing with his fastest time this season of 25:48.9. The final two racers for the Pointers to finish off the scoring were Kyle Pflug (Paddock Lake, Wis./Westosha Central) and Dylan Jensen (McHenry, Ill./East) in 57th and 72nd place. Pflug marked his fastest race of the season with a time of 25:56.5 and Jensen crossed the finish line with a time of 26:14.2. As a team, they finished 10th out of a field of 28 teams.

UWSP will await official selections to next Saturday's (Nov. 19) NCAA Cross Country Nationals in Lansing, Mich. The official entrant's list will be announced at NCAA.com on Sunday (Nov. 13).
