Pointers Notch a Dozen Event Wins in Season-Opening Dual Against UWEC

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team opened the season with 12 event victories in a dual with visiting UW-Eau Claire.  The men fell short by a score of 68.5-64.5 while the UWSP women fell by a score of 83-57.
 
Results
 
Felix King (Chicago, Ill./John Adams) earned the win the 60-meter dash for the UWSP men with a time of 7.27.
 
Distance runners Braedon Gilles (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and Kyle Pflug (Paddock Lake, Wis./Westosha Central) won the one mile and 3000-meter runs with time of 4:28.96 and 9:14.53, respectively.
 
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) swept the top spot in the long and triple jumps. His winning distance in the long jump was 6.59 meters. In the triple jump, he reached a distance of 14.2 meters for the win.
 
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) took first place in the weight throw with a distance of 16.98 meters.
 
For the women, Shannon Nelson (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.90, leading a trio of top finishers for the Pointers.
 
Freshman Ashley Spatz (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) won the 400-meter dash in her collegiate debut. Her victorious time was 1:01.19.
 
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.06. Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) earned first place in the pole vault with a height of 3.22 meters.
 
UWSP's women won the long and triple jump.  Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) took first in the long jump with a distance of 5.45 meters.  Kasy Walker-Daniels (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) reached a distance of 10.66 meter to win the triple jump.
 
The Pointers host UW-Platteville next Saturday (Feb. 13).  Events start at 12:00 p.m.
