UWSP Track and Field Wins Nine Events in Home Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team won nine events in a dual against UW-La Crosse on Saturday, the home finale for the Pointers.  UWSP fell by team scores of 71-59 on the women's side and 90-64 on the men's.
 
Results
 
Brilyn Brecka (Alma, Wis./Alma) won the shot put for the second week in a row.  She posted a distance of 14.27 meters (46' 10").
 
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.69, her second win this season in the event.
 
Leyna Herzog (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) clocked a season-best time of 26.20 in the 200-meter dash.  Her first-place finish was the second-straight week she earned the victory in the event.
 
In the 5000-meter run, Emma Guenther (Monroe, Wis./Albany) posted her best time of the year (19:12.59) to win the event.
 
Emily Wintrone (Onalaska, Wis./Luther) won the mile run with a time of 6:08.93.
 
On the men's side, Braedon Gilles (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) turned on the jets in the final lap of the 800-meter run to overtake the leader and win the event with a time of 1:57.76.  It was his second win in the 800 this season.
 
Michael Kluz (Oconomowoc,Wis./Oconomowoc) finished first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:57.82, his second win in a many weeks in the event.
 
Mike Ayensu-Mensah (Appleton, Wis./North) set a personal best distance in the triple jump to win the event.  He leaped 13.56 meters (44' 6").
 
Cade Ravenscroft (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) nabbed his first career win in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters (6' 4").
 
The Pointers travel to Whitewater on Saturday (March 6) in the indoor finale.  Action begins at 12:00 p.m.
