Pointers Take 19 Event Titles in Dual Sweep of Pioneers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team won 19 of the 27 events to sweep the UW-Platteville Pioneers for the second-straight week.  The men won by a team score of 75-56 while the women picked up the victory, 77-59.

Results
 
UWSP's women picked up wins in 10 events.  Freshman Chrissy Hughes (Milton, Wis./Milton) won both the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump.  She posted the top time in the hurdles at 9.55 while clearing the bar at 1.36 meters (4' 5.5") in the high jump.
 
Fellow freshman Leyna Herzog (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) earned the win the 200-meter dash, outpacing the field that contained eight UWP runners, with a time of 26.49.
 
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) defeated a group of teammates that took the top-6 spots in the 400-meter dash.  Wellhausen clocked in at 1:00.45 to earn the victory.
 
Gabri Gaines (Madison, Wis./Memorial) took the top spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.32. 
 
UWSP's 4x400-meter relay team of Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn), Molly Milliren (Thorp, Wis./Thorp), Mackenzie Johnson (Stevens Point, Wis./Cumberland) and Ashley Spatz (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) edged out teammates by 0.19 seconds to win the event with a time of 4:09.70.
 
Abby Nelson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) posted UWSP's best mark of the year in the pole vault, winning with a height of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75").
 
Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won the long jump for the second time this year with a season-best distance of 5.54 meters (18' 2.25").  Kasy Walker-Daniels (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) also posted her best mark of the year, 10.67 meters (35' 0.25"), to win the triple jump for the third meet in a row.
 
Brilyn Brecka (Alma, Wis./Alma) won the shot put for the first time this year with a throw of 11.88 meters (38' 11.75").
 
UWSP's men won nine events.  Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) swept the event wins in the throws.  He posted distances of 14.95 meters (49' 0.75") in the shot put and 17.80 meters (58' 4.75") in the weight throw, season bests in both events.
 
Braedon Gilles (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) continued to post wins and shaved three seconds off his time in the mile run with a time of 4:25.48, more than seven seconds ahead of the runner-up.  Michael Kluz (Oconomowoc,Wis./Oconomowoc) pulled ahead late to win the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:54.05.
 
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) won the 60-meter hurdles for the second-straight week with a time of 8.42 this week.  He also teamed with Spencer Lindstrom (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo), Max Sobczak (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Trevor Howe (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:36.55.
 
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) continued his win streak in the long jump posting a season-best distance of 6.80 meters (22' 3.75").  Caleb Carter (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) won the triple jump with a distance of 12.90 meters (42' 4").
 
Nick Baumgartner (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) picked up the victory in the pole vault with a height of 4.20 meters (13' 9.25").
 
The Pointers will host a two-day WIAC Multis event on Wednesday (Feb. 24) and Thursday (Feb. 25).  Events begin at 4:30 p.m. both days.
