WAUKESHA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team opened the 2017 season with a split, defeating North Park, 5-4, before falling to Carroll University, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Carroll University.
UWSP 4 – North Park 5 (forfeit by UWSP)
UW-Stevens Point (1-0) took two out of three doubles matches to defeat North Park (2-4), 5-4, in the opening match of the day. The doubles team of Kaylee Roberts (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) and Emily Kleist (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) defeated Katie Chleboun and Hannah Rosenbaum, 8-3, to earn points for UWSP. The pair of Elizabeth Wilichowski (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) and Anna Dobbe (Stoddard, Wis./Onalaska Luther) followed suit, defeating Linnea Love and Grace Pavalak, 8-4.
In singles play, the Pointers won three matches in dominating fashion. Senior Erin Lemmer (Wausau, Wis./East) won her first match of the season sweeping Chleboun, 6-0 and 6-0, for UWSP's first singles points of the day. Wilichowski earned her second victory of the match defeating Pavalak, 6-3 and 6-4. Dobbe rounded out the first match scoring, knocking off Rosenbaum, 6-1 and 6-1.
UWSP 2 – Carroll 7
Carroll University (3-3) used a doubles sweep and four singles wins to top UW-Stevens Point (1-1) by a 7-2 margin.
Dobbe earned her third victory of the day to give UWSP its first point of the match, defeating Nicole Panarese in three sets. Wilichowski swept Audrey Schleich, 6-1 and 6-1, giving the UWSP its second point of the match.
The Pointers will travel to Lakeland University on Tuesday, Sept. 12, before opening WIAC play with a trip to UW-Stout on Friday, Sept. 15. Both matches are scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
