Regal Named WIAC Newcomer of the Year Headlining Trio of Awards

MADISON, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point women's tennis player Chloe Regal (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) became the first Pointer to earn Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WAIC) Newcomer of the Year honors in women's tennis. Regal also earned All-WIAC first team singles and was joined by partner Annie Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) as first-team doubles. Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Regal posted a phenomenal 21-3 record playing at No. 1 singles in all 24 matches. She shut out her opponent in straight sets in five wins and won in a super-breaker twice. One of her defeats was in a super-breaker and all three losses were against non-conference opponents. Her 21 singles wins as a freshman already ranks 19th most all-time in program history.
 
In doubles play, Regal and Wierzbicki went 20-5 on the year. The duo went 8-0 at No. 2 doubles to begin the season and won their first six matches at No. 1 doubles. The first defeat they suffered was in a tiebreak.
 
Jantz went 17-9 in singles play and became the all-time leader in singles wins with 51 in her four-year career. She played at No. 2 singles all season and picked up five wins by either super-breaker or in a full third set. In doubles play, Jantz went 18-7 with partner Ellie Aitken (Sterling, Ill./Sterling).
 
The UWSP women's tennis team reached the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament. The Pointers went 20-6 marking the second time in program history with 20 or more wins in a season.
