MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point Swimming and Diving team's competed in a two-day meet at the Minnesota Challenge over the weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Results
On day one of the competition,
Jack Englehardt (Madison, Wis./West) picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.94. Teammate
Andrew King (Palatine, Ill./) followed in second with a time of 21.08. Englehardt in day two of completion earned a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.18.
On day two of competition,
Grant Moser (St. Michael, Minn./) and
Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./) finished first and second, respectively. The pair finished with times of 1:55.94 and 1:56.24.
In the 500-yard freestyle,
Nate Somers (Oshkosh, Wis./West) finished with a time of 4:42.74. Somers time earned him a third- place finish, just two seconds off from first. Somers picked up an additional second-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:22.28.
On the second day of competition,
Sam Jekel (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) competed in the 100-yard backstroke. Jekel finished with a time of 52.07, good for third-place.
Justin Fernandez (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) picked up a third-place finish in the 400-yard IM. Fernandez finished with a time of 4:15.11.
Garrett Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Richetto finished with a time of 1:43.22.
On the women's side,
Jackie Braun (Sauk Rapids, Minn./) competed in the one-meter diving event. Braun finished with a score of 245.15. Later on, Braun competed in the three-meter diving event finishing with a score of 222.85, good for 11th.
Natalie Schmitt (Madison, Wis./Memorial) was the top finisher for the Pointers in the 200-yard butterfly. Schmitt finished with a time of 2:29.78.
On day two of the competition,
Bree Parent (Mt. Horeb, Wis./) picked up a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Parent finished with time of 2:31.61. Parent was also the top finisher for the Pointers in the 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard IM finishing with times of 1:10.36 and 5:01.08.
Missy Angove was the top finisher for the Pointers in the 200-yard backstroke. Agnove finished with a time of 2:21.23.
Taylor Pehrson (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville High School) was the top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle. Pehrson finished with a time of 5:45.40.
The Pointers travel to Brown Deer, Wis. to compete in the WIAC Championships on February 16, 17, and 18.
