BROWN DEER, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams are competing in the WIAC Championships (pres. by Culver's) through Saturday. After competition on day one and two, the men are in third place with a score of 247 and the women are in fourth place with a score of 159.5.
Day One, Wednesday Feb 18
Declan Trant (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) opened the WIAC Championships for the Pointers by claiming the three-meter dive title with a score of 540.30. The 200-yard medley relay team of
Scott Jenn (Madison, Wis./Memorial),
Wyatt Gross (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community),
Shawn Denis (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) took third place with a time of 1:31.32. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Matthew Loy (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights),
Jakson Wagner (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area),
David Anderson (Madison, Wis./West) and
Mason Releford (Vacaville, Cal./Vacaville Christian) notched a fourth-place finish with a time of 7:00.70.
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Margaret Henkemeyer-Howe (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead),
Lilly Featherstone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community),
Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and
Hollyn Ambre (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) took fifth place with a time of 1:49.21. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Chloe Nilles (Wausau, Wis./East), Ambre,
Maddy Magle (Sheboygan, Wis./Kohler) and
Gracyn Schmitz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) placed fourth with a time of 7:57.11 to round out day one scoring for the Pointers.
After day one, the men were in second with a score of 112, just one point behind first place. The women were tied for fourth place with a score of 58.
Day Two, Thursday Feb 19
Grant Bergman (Waukesha, Wis./South)n secured a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 4:46.22. Denis finished the 200-yard IM in fourth place with a personal-best time of 1:53.62, .3 seconds behind third place. Barwick notched a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.21. The 400-yard medley relay team of Jenn, Gross, Denis and Barwick placed third with a time of 3:25.14.
Ambre recorded a season-best time of 5:09.39 to take third place in the 500-yard freestyle.
Katie Shaw (Madison, Wis./West) took seventh place in the 200-yard IM with a personal-best time of 2:13.81. Scheglowski finished ninth in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 24.49.
Kayla Warpechowski (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) placed eighth in the one-meter dive with a score of 363.50. The 400-yard medley relay team of Henkemeyer-Howe,
Meghan Spence (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Falls), Shaw and Scheglowski took fifth with a time of 4:04.89.
The Pointers return to the pool tomorrow (Feb 19) for day three of the WIAC Championships in Brown Deer, Wis. Preliminaries are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals beginning at 6:30 p.m.
