BROWN DEER, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded the WIAC Championships (pres. by Culver's) on Saturday evening. The men finished third with a score of 677 and the women finished fourth with a score of 411.
Day Three, Friday Feb 20
Scott Jenn (Madison, Wis./Memorial) and
Declan Trant (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) opened day three with spectacular performances. Jenn claimed the 100-yard backstroke title with a time of 50.19. He also took fifth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.39. Trant completed the sweep of diving titles, winning the one-meter with a score of 473.40.
Mason Releford (Vacaville, Cal./Vacaville Christian) took eighth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:20.16.
Jakson Wagner (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.66.
Shawn Denis (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) posted a time of 57.44 in the 100-yard breaststroke to take sixth place. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest), Denis, Wagner and
Matthew Loy (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) nabbed a third-place finish with a time of 1:23.94.
Katie Shaw (Madison, Wis./West) took ninth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.44 and eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.77.
Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) saw the podium with an eighth-place finish of 4:58.27 in the 400-yard IM.
Hollyn Ambre (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) notched the highest-finish with second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.52.
Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) tied for ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.79. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Bailey Vincer (Byron, Ill./Byron), Ambre,
Olivia Seward (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and
Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) took fourth with a time of 1:38.89.
The Pointers concluded day three with the men in third place with a score of 473 and the women in third place with a score of 292.5.
Day Four, Saturday Feb 21
Grant Bergman (Waukesha, Wis./South) opened the final day of the WIAC Championships with a fourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:30.52. Jenn swam to a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:52.40. Loy took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.10.
Wyatt Gross (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) notched a fourth-place finish with the time of 2:03.58 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Cole Brodin (Rochester, Minn./Century) took seventh in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.01. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Barwick, Denis, Jenn and Loy raced to a fourth-place finish with the time of 3:07.64, .20 seconds behind third-place. To conclude the meet, Trant was named WIAC Diver of the Meet for the second consecutive year after sweeping the diving titles.
Gracyn Schmitz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) opened for the women with an eighth-place finish with the time of 18:38.61 in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Alliyah Lima (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) took ninth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.03. Scheglowski notched a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.82.
Meghan Spence (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) finished 10
th with a time of 2:31.86 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Lizzy Featherstone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) took 11
th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:28.84.
Kayla Warpechowski (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) took 10
th in the three-meter dive with a score of 348.25. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Scheglowski, Shaw,
Chloe Nilles (Wausau, Wis./East) and Ambre raced to a close fourth-place finish with a time of 3:36.26, just .03 behind third-place.
