STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point head swimming and diving coach Al Boelk has announced the return of Sam Davy to UWSP as program's newest assistant.

"I am thrilled to become the next assistant coach for UWSP swimming and diving," said Davy.  "I am grateful for the opportunity to return home to the Stevens Point swimming community. Thank you to Al Boelk, Brad Duckworth, and the entire search committee.  Thank you to all the Pointers alumni who shaped my career at the Stevens Point YMCA and UWSP – especially Justin Stoffel.  I look forward to giving back to Central Wisconsin, and UWSP swim and dive family for years to come."

Davy returns to UWSP after nine years at Swarthmore College (2017-26) where he served as associate head coach.  During his tenure, Swarthmore achieved unprecedented success at both the national and conference levels.  Over seven NCAA Championships, the Garnet recorded six top-25 finishes, produced 29 All-Americans and totaled 130 All-American honors.  At eight conference championships, the team captured 10 titles and 171 event wins.  Swarthmore swimmers broke school records over 200 times and posted over 800 all-time top-10 performances during his nine years on campus.

He leaves Swarthmore following one of its most successful seasons.  In 2026, the men's team posted the highest NCAA finish in program history, highlighted by Cami Wilson's third-place finish in the 100 butterfly.  The women's team secured a third-consecutive top-12 NCAA finish, won its fifth-straight Centennial Conference title, and extended its dual meet winning streak to 48.  At the NCAA Championships, Genine Collins placed second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, recording the third-fastest time in Division III history in the 50 free.

Academically, Swarthmore earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors for 18 consecutive semesters, including the top GPA in Division III men's swimming and diving in fall 2019.  Davy coached 49 Academic All-Americans, five Centennial Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and three PhillySIDA Performers of the Year. He also served as aquatics director, overseeing daily operations of the facility.

"Bringing Sam back to UWSP brings great joy and excitement to our team," stated Boelk. "I watched his progress evolve as an age group swimmer in Stevens Point when he was being coached by Justin Stoffel, both on the Stevens Point Y swim team as well as at UWSP camps. As fate would have it, Justin left the Y and was hired at UWSP while Sam was still in high school, so he also got to coach Sam along with me through Sam's collegiate career, and coach alongside him Sam's fifth year at UWSP.  After that, as Sam went off into the coaching world all over the country, he always made a point to come back home to coach at the UWSP swim camps."

"I've always known that it was Sam's hope to come back and coach at his Alma Mater in his hometown," continued Boelk. "It brings me much happiness for Sam to realize his dream - not only be able to coach here, but for he and Elizabeth to be able to raise their kids within our team and community full of family and friends. I have no doubt that Sam will elevate our program to the next level. His energy, enthusiasm, and expertise are incredible – arguably only surpassed by his loyalty and love of his hometown and the UWSP swimming and diving program."

Prior to Swarthmore, Davy spent two years on staff at the University of Tennessee, where he earned his master degree in sport management in 2017.  Before Rocky Top, he spent one season coaching at The Ohio State University and a year in Madison, Wisconsin at the YMCA of Dane County and Southwest Aquatics.  Additionally, he has experience at swim camps in Austin, Boston, LA and Princeton.

A Stevens Point native, his coaching experience began in Central Wisconsin.  Most recently, he has worked multiple summers at the Stevens Point and Impact Aquatics Swim Camps on campus at UWSP with former assistant Justin Stoffel, and upon finishing his eligibility at Point, he worked alongside Boelk and Stoffel for one season focusing on weight room and dry land programming.

As a student-athlete at UWSP, Davy was a 16-time All-American, 17-time WIAC champion, and team captain as a senior in 2012.  He qualified for the NCAA Championships in all four seasons (2008-12) and was named WIAC Swimmer of the Year in 2011.  He graduated with five WIAC and four UWSP records, and earned his bachelor's degree in health promotion and wellness in 2013. A 2008 SPASH graduate, Davy grew up in the Stevens Point YMCA program, training under UWSP alumni spanning multiple generations.

Davy and his wife, Elizabeth, were married on the UWSP Old Main lawn in 2018.  Elizabeth, a former UWSP volleyball and track and field student-athlete, graduated in 2011.  The couple have two children, Brooks and Beatrice.
