APPLETON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point cross country teams sent a group of young competitors to the Gene Davis Invitational where the men's team finished second. UWSP's women came in sixth at the meet.

Sophomore
Noah Schulze (Land O'Lakes, WI/Northland Pines/) paced the men's team with a fourth-place finish in a time of 26:44. Fellow sophomore
Robert Lutz (Greendale, WI/Greendale) ran a 27:13 time to place eighth.
Two more sophomores,
Josh Schaefer (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) and
Preston Mertins (Colby, WI/Colby) earned top-20 finishes. Schaefer placed 17th with a time of 27:43 and Mertins came in 19th at 27:56.
On the women's side, sophomore
Erinn Olmsted (Green Bay, WI/East) was the top finisher for UWSP in 24th place with a time of 25:39. Freshman
Sam Ritter (Prescott, Wis. /Prescott) crossed in 26th with a time of 26:05.
The Pointers return to racing next Saturday with squads heading to the Kollege Town Sports Invite in Winneconne, Wis., and the Cowbell Classic (Pre-Nationals) in Elsah, Ill.
