STEVENS POINT, WIS.- The UW-Stevens Point Swimming and diving team defeated UW-Eau Claire by 249 points at the annual Point Invite this weekend. The men won with a score of 1367 while the women finished in third with a score of 642 behind Minnesota-Mankato and UWEC.
Results
Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./) finished the 200-yard IM with a first place finish. Aegerter finished with a time of 1:59.54. Aegerter later went on to win the 400-yard IM with a time 4:18.06.
Nate Somers (Oshkosh, Wis./West) earned a first place finish in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:53.62. Somers also won the 200-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle with a times of 1:47.82 and 17:12.20.
In the 100-yard backstroke
Ethan Bott (Whitefish Bay, Wis./) finished in first. Teammate
Brandon Richardson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Michael Academy) was three seconds behind earning a third-place finish with a time of 56.20. Bott later won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.17, a time that was two seconds faster than his seed time.
Jackson Aton (Berlin, Wis./Berlin) and
Justin Fernandez (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) went first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke. The pair finished with times of 2:17.30 and 2:17.88. Aton finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.19 for a third-place finish.
Sam Jekel (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) and
Jack Englehardt (Madison, Wis./West) went first and second in the 100 yard-freestyle. The pair finished just .06 seconds apart. Englehardt and Jekel later went first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 20.66 and 21.55 with teammate
Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) just .20 seconds behind Jekel.
Grant Moser (St. Michael, Minn./) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.77. Moser also went on to win the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.30. He also finished second in the 200-yard IM.
Owen Gluck (West Bend, Wis./East) won the three-meter and placed second one-meter diving events.
Sean Cloghessy (Munster, Ind./) finished in third place in both events.
Jackin Braun won the three-meter and finished second in the one-meter diving events. Braun finished with scores of 409.59 and 411.70. Teammate
Angie D'Oronzo (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew High School) followed Braun with a third-place finish in the three-meter event with a score of 379.30.
Erica Perkins (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century High School) was the lone Pointer in the 200-yard IM as she finished in second place. Perkins swam a time of 2:18.00, improving her preliminary time by two seconds. Perkins also went on for a third-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:58.55.
Natalie Schmitt (Madison, Wis./Memorial) earned a third-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20.06.00. Schmitt's teammate
Taylor Pehrson (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville High School) followed in fourth with a time of 20:26.82.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Missy Angove earned a fifth-place finish. From her day one time, Angove improved by one second and her seed time by four seconds.
In the 500-yard freestyle,
Murron Roff (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) finished in sixth place. Roff finished with a time of 5:40.87.
Bree Parent (Mt. Horeb, Wis./) finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke. Parent finished with a time of 2:33.03, finishing faster than her seeded time.
The Pointers travel to La Crosse, Wis., on Saturday (Jan. 28) for a dual against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The meet is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
