MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team opened the season on the road splitting matches against Carroll University, 0-9 and Marian University, 8-1.

In singles play, veteran
Jordan Tyjeski (Beaver Dam, WI/Beaver Dam) took Pioneer Tiffany Maggioncalda to the wire in both sets, but dropped the match 7-6 (5) and 7-5.

Between sites, the Pointers (1-1) refocused and took care of business defeating the Sabres (0-1) in convincing fashion.
The Pointers won seven consecutive matches beginning with No. 1 doubles team
Katelyn Asfeld (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) and Tyjeski who defeated Megan Hartzell and Alissa Heid, 8-4. The other two doubles team followed suit, sweeping 8-3 and 8-0 to earn the first three points for the Pointers.
In singles play, UWSP continued their dominance winning the next four matches. Pointer
Elizabeth Wilichowski (Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) battled Melissa Spannbauer dropping the first set 3-6, but rebounded in the second set for a 7-6 win. In the second set tie breaker, Wilichowski fell 7-3 giving Marian their one point.
UW-Stevens Point has their home opener, Sat. September 3 as they host M.S.O.E and Loras College at University Courts. The Pointers first match against M.S.O.E is set for 9 a.m. and will follow-up with Loras at 3 p.m.
