Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) won the 165-pound title and sophomore
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) finished runner-up at 125-pounds to lead the Pointers at the 2016 NCAA Division III Midwest Wrestling Regional at Wabash College.
BracketsHermsen went 4-0 on the day, posting wins by pin in the opener (1:09), then three straight decisions (11-7, 8-6 and 3-2), defeating Whitewater's Tom Gerszewski in the title match, punching his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Ia. March 11-12.
Vosters also punched his tickets to the championships with his runner-up finish at 125. Vosters posted a pin over Wabash's Robbie Carter in 4:49 then needed 7-5 sudden-victory1 win over Chicago's Devan Richter to advance to the title match against Whitewater's Zac Denny. Vosters fell 4-3 to Denny, who he defeated 3-2 to win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) 125-pound title the week prior.
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) finished fourth at 141-pounds finishing the day 4-2, falling to Wabash's Michael Venezia in the 3rd-place match 6-2.
Joe Crook (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) also posted a fourth place finish at 149-pounds, posting an opening round pin in just :20 seconds but needed to fight his way back from a second round loss to the third place match, where he fell to UW-Whitewter's Isaiah Vela 9-8.
