STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team lost 8-1 to Bethel and 5-4 to Lawrence on Saturday afternoon at University Courts.
Bethel 8, UW-Stevens Point 1 | Box Bethel (1-0) used a doubles sweep and five singles win to top UW-Stevens Point (3-4) by an 8-1 margin. The Royals won each of the three doubles matches by at least four games and picked up four straight-set singles victories.
Emily Kleist (Muskego, WI/Muskego) provided the lone point for the Pointers with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Anna Browning at second singles. Kleist is now 4-2 on the season, tying for the team-lead in singles victories.
Katelyn Asfeld (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) won the first set of her match against Mattie Kidder at first singles in a tiebreaker, only for Kidder to comeback and win 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 in a tight match.
Lawrence 5, UW-Stevens Point 4 | Box After winning two of the three doubles matches, Lawrence (7-6) got what it needed with a singles split to defeat the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point's doubles point came from
Kaylee Roberts (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) and
Frances Weiss (Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) at third doubles, as the pair edged Annie Narnicar and Katie Nottberg 9-7.
Asfeld rebounded from her close loss earlier in the day to top Katie Frankel 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 at first singles.
Nicole Thorson (Ripon, WI/Ripon) also won a highly-competitive match at third singles over Lindsay Holsen 2-6, 6-4, 10-2.
Jordan Tyjeski (Beaver Dam, WI/Beaver Dam) defeated Harnicar 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles. Kleist dropped a tight match 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 to Lilly Endsley at the second spot.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.
