Megan Menotti (Vernon Hills, IL/Chicago Mission) scored an early goal but Lake Forest outscored the No. 8-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team 5-1 over the final two periods of a 5-2 Foresters' win on Friday night at Alumni Memorial Arena.
Box Score Menotti scored her sixth goal of the season unassisted at 1:26 of the opening period for UW-Stevens Point (11-5-1, 3-2-1 WIAC). However, Lake Forest (8-4-2, 7-3-1 NCHA) scored the next four goals of the game to take command.
Melissa Paluch and Michelle Greenway scored 15 seconds apart in the first 1:17 of the second period to give the hosts a 2-1 lead after two periods. Third-period goals by Holly Lesperance, on the power play, and Kayla Griffith gave the Foresters a 4-1 lead at 11:53 of the third period.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) scored her ninth goal of the season at 13:20 of the final period off an assist by
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac). The nine goals tie the freshman with
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) for the team lead in that department.
Greenway tallied her second goal and third point of the night with an empty-net goal in the final three minutes. Both teams tallied 25 shots in the game.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) made 20 saves in the loss for the Pointers, while Casey Hartfiel stopped 23 shots for the Foresters.
Lake Forest was 1-for-6 on the power play, while UW-Stevens Point was 0-for-4.
The two teams meet on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. to complete the weekend series.
