Women’s Hockey Drops WIAC Semifinal Opener at UWEC

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (11-15-0) fell by a 4-0 final to No. 11 UW-Eau Claire (19-7-0) in game one of the WAIC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinals.

UWSP goaltender Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) held the Blugolds off the board until, literally, the final second of the first period.

Griege made 10 saves in the opening period. She made 18 more in the second period, again allowing just one goal as UWSP trailed, 2-0 after two.

UWEC made it 3-0 at 8:52 of the third period. With Griege pulled in favor of an extra attacker, the Blugolds scored an empty-netter to seal the win at 15:44.

Greige totalled 48 saves in the game. UWEC goaltender Kambelle Freije had 16 saves.

The Pointers face UWEC in game two of the WIAC semifinals on Saturday (Feb. 28). Puck drop in Eau Claire is slated for 2:00 p.m.
