STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team did not drop a set on its way to defeating UW-River Falls 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Box ScoreUW-Stevens Point (3-1) won tight first sets at the top three singles spots as part of five straight-set singles wins. The Pointers also won the two doubles matches. UW-River Falls (0-2) defaulted the sixth singles and third doubles matches.
Katelyn Asfeld (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) won a first-set tiebreaker at first singles before taking the second 6-3.
Hayley Schlueter (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) and
Hannah Dexheimer (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West) each won their first sets 7-5 in straight-set wins at second and third singles.Â
Erin Lemmer (Wausau, WI/Wausau East) raced through her match at fourth singles without dropping a game, while
Abbey Johnson (Black River Falls, WI/Black River Falls) lost just three games at fifth singles.
At first doubles, Asfeld and
Megan Zielke (Cleveland, WI/Sheboygan North) were pushed to a first-set tiebreaker but the UW-Stevens Point duo improved to 3-0 on the year by taking the tiebreaker 7-0.
Molly Hendries (Menasha, WI/Menasha) and
Kristen Finstad (River Falls, WI/River Falls) also picked up their third win of the season with an 8-4 win at second doubles.
The Pointers host Bethel and UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Sept. 20. Play begins at 9 a.m.
