Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) scored her conference-leading 18th goal of the season but fourth-ranked UW-River Falls won the inaugural Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship game over fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

Dani Sibley scored twice for the Falcons (21-4-3), while Chloe Kinsel, Brianna Breiland and Brook Story each added a goal. Salmen scored at 14:52 of the third period for the Pointers (19-5-4) to make the score 3-1 but UW-River Falls added a pair of empty-net goals in the final two minutes.
Both teams will find out if they are in the NCAA Tournament field on Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern time in the selection show.
UW-River Falls opened the scoring 37 seconds into the game on Sibley's first goal of the game and she added a second in the final 20 seconds of the opening period. Kinsel then made it 3-0 at 7:03 of the second before Anderson set up Salmen's goal for UWSP.
As UW-Stevens Point went in search of a comeback, Breiland and Story scored unassisted goals in the final 1:48 of the game. Both teams had 23 shots in the game and neither team managed a goal in nine combined power plays.
Ashley Kuechle made 22 saves in net for the Falcons, while
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) kept out 18 shots for the Pointers.
