Stevens Point, Wis.- The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team defeated UW-Stout at home 8-1 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match on Friday, Oct. 10 at University Courts.
Box ScoreUW-Stevens Point (5-7, 2-4 WIAC) won in straight sets in all six singles matches, after taking two of three doubles matches against visiting UW-Stout (3-12, 0-5 WIAC).
In the closest of the singles matches,
Katelyn Asfeld (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 over UW-Stout's Angela Braun at the one spot, giving her a three-match win streak. Improving her win streak to three as well was
Hannah Dexheimer (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West), who defeated Emma Pedersen 6-3, 6-0 at the third singles spot.
UW-Stevens Point also got straight-set singles wins from
Hayley Schlueter (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls),
Molly Hendries (Menasha, WI/Menasha),
Erin Lemmer (Wausau, WI/Wausau East) and
Abbey Johnson (Black River Falls, WI/Black River Falls). The Pointers lost no more than six games in any of the six singles matches.
In doubles, Asfeld and Schlueter picked up an 8-2 win at first doubles, while
Rosie Buckley (Menomonie, WI/Menomonie) and Dexheimer earned a narrow 9-7 win at the third spot.
The only dropped match of the day came at the second spot in doubles where
Kristen Finstad (River Falls, WI/River Falls) and
Molly Hendries (Menasha, WI/Menasha) lost 9-7 in a tightly-contested match.
With its fall regular season schedule complete, UW-Stevens Point looks to ride this momentum on Saturday, Oct. 25 when the Pointers take to the WIAC Tennis Championship in Madison at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
