Ladd, Henegar lead men's hockey to sixth straight win

Box Score WINONA, Minn. – Six goals over the final two periods sent the No. 5/6 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 6-4 non-conference win against Saint Mary's on Saturday night at SMU Ice Arena.

Box Score

The win ran the Pointers (6-0-0) winning streak to six games to start the season. Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton) and Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton) each scored twice, while Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn) and Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) each tallied a goal and an assist in the game.

The Cardinals (2-4-0) were the first team to score first against UW-Stevens Point this season, and the hosts took a 2-1 lead in the middle of the second period. Goals by Jed McGlasson and Bob Marx sandwiched a power-play goal by Ladd to put Saint Mary's on top.

However, the Pointers scored the next four goals of the game over the next 15 minutes of action to take command. Ladd's second evened the score at 2-2 before Heck put UWSP on top for the first time at the 13:20 mark of the second period with a power-play goal. Ladd has a nation-best 13 points in six games this season.

Leading 3-2, UWSP continued to extend its lead early in the third period. Henegar scored both of his goals in the first four minutes of the final period to give the Pointers a 5-2 lead. Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) picked up his second assist of the game on Henegar's first, while Heck and Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI/) assisted his second on the power play.

The Cardinals got Marx's second goal of the game and a goal by Nick Albergo on either side of Brodie's goal to complete the scoring. Brodie's short-handed goal gives him nine points on the season, making him the second-highest scoring defenseman in the country.

UW-Stevens Point outshot Saint Mary's 52-19 in the game, including 38-8 over the final two periods. Both teams scored three power-play goals in a game that had 19 penalties.

UWSP goalie Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) made 15 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. Christian Gaffy was kept busy for Saint Mary's, making 46 saves in taking the loss.
