STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (11-12-2, 6-8-1) closed out the regular season with a 3-2 loss to UW-Superior (13-10-2, 6-8-1).
The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead just 1:55 into the game. Superior doubled its lead at 10:13 of the second period and put UWSP in a 3-0 hole at 4:53 of the third period.
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) tipped in a shot at 11:25 of the third period to get UWSP on the board.
Chris Engelbert (Whitby, Ont.) won the draw and
Hunter O'Brien (Cambridge, Ont.) ripped the initial shot to get assists on the play.
At 17:52 of the third,
Camden Markham (Houghton, Mich.) got UWSP within one. His goal was assisted on by
Gabe Randel (Hortonville, Wis.) and
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.).
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 16 saves. UW-Superior goaltender Jan Skorpik made 29 saves.
The Pointers will travel to UW-Superior on Saturday (Feb. 21) at 7:00 p.m. for the first round of the WIAC Tournament.
