WAUKESHA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point tennis team dropped its season opener against Carroll University in non-conference action Friday afternoon.

After jumping out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, the Pointers couldn't hold on and eventually fell to Carroll 5-4.
The Pointers started out strong in the doubles competition, winning two of three matches. The No.1 doubles team of
Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central) and
Taylor Weuve (Green Bay, WI/Preble) defeated Carroll's Pallet/Larson 9-8 (7-4).
The Pointers No. 3 doubles team of
Monica Preisig (Wausau, WI/West) and
Allison Fortier (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) also picked up a win for the Pointers, defeating Carroll's Patzin/Weckop 9-7.
Preisig and
Lauren Steinkamp (Lake in the Hills, IL/H.D. Jacobs) tallied the only singles victories for the Pointers as Carroll recorded wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles to secure the victory.
UW-Stevens Point (0-1) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Beloit, Wis., against Mount Mary and Beloit College. Action is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
