GREEN BAY, Wis. – St. Norbert out-shot UW-Stevens Point 38-23 on Thursday evening to hand the Pointers an 8-3 defeat at Cornerstone Community Center in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action.
Max Bobrow (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored his third goal of the season with 1:55 remaining in the first period to even the score at a goal apiece after the first period.
In the second, the Green Knights offense came alive, posting two more goals before
Nick Kenney (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake Western) was able to score his sixth goal of the season off assists from
Jerry Freismuth (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) and
Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt), making the score 3-2.
A pair of Green Knight goals in the 17th minute put the Pointers behind 5-2 after the second period.
In the third,
Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) scored his league-leading 17th goal of the season in the third but three St. Norbert goals gave the Green Knights the 8-3 victory.
The win for St. Norbert (14-5-5, 11-4-2 NCHA) gives it at least a share of the regular-season title. Only UW-River Falls (15-6-2, 9-5-2 NCHA) can reach SNC's 24 league points.
UW-Stevens Point (11-9-4, 7-6-4 NCHA) will need a win on Saturday against UW-Stout to secure an opening round playoff series on home ice. The Pointers and Blue Devils will square off in the regular-season finale Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Ice Arena in Stevens Point. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
