ADRIAN, Mich. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team saw its Northern Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCHA) playoff run come to an end on Saturday as the Bulldogs of Adrian College forced a decisive mini game with a 4-3 overtime victory and then advanced with a 1-0 overtime mini game win.
The third-seeded Bulldogs (15-9-2) took the 1-0 lead in the opening game but UWSP's
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) answered with just four seconds remaining in the game's opening period to knot the score at 1-1.
In the second period, the teams again traded goals, with Adrian scoring first at the 11:52 mark and
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) answered at the 17:59 mark to even the game at 2-2.
In the third, more goal trading ensued as Adrian notched its third power-play goal of the game at the 7:44 mark and Marvin tallied her second goal of the evening and 16th of the season with 16:33 gone by in the third period.
The score remained knotted at 3-3, forcing overtime. In the extra period, needing a win to force a mini game, the Bulldogs pulled their goaltender and with 1:41 remaining scored the game winner to even the series and force a decisive mini game.
After a scoreless 20 minutes of regulation in the mini game, the Bulldogs scored just 20 seconds in to seal the 1-0 victory and end the Pointers' season.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) finished with 36 saves in the 4-3 loss. She added 10 in the mini game.
UW-Stevens Point finishes the season at 13-12-2.
