STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point tallied a goal just 49 seconds in to the game on Friday evening but after that it was all Yellowjackets, as UW-Superior took game one of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Quarterfinal series at K.B. Willett Arena.
Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt) scored unassisted just 49 seconds into the first period to give the Pointers the early advantage, 1-0.
In the second, Superior's Chad Blanleil evened the score at the 11:22 mark with the Yellowjackets' first goal of the evening.
In the third, UWS's Andy Singerhouse scored the eventual game winner at the 5:48 mark off a Justin Faryna assist.
The 'Jackets defense held UWSP to just one shot on net in the third period, but UWSP held a 15-13 advantage in shots on net.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) tallied 11 saves on the evening while his counterpart Drew Strandberg earned the victory with 14 saves.
UW-Stevens Point (12-10-4) and UW-Superior (10-9-7) take to the ice in game two of the two-game series Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. UWSP needs a win to force a decisive mini game, which will take place, if necessary, following Saturday's game.
