STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.
Gustavus took advantage of UWSP penalties early in the game as the Gusties scored power-play goals at the 5:05 and 8:37 marks in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Pointers responded in the second, scoring two goals of their own.
Sam Lorr (Chisago, MN/Chisago Lakes) scored the first UWSP goal at 5:51 thanks to an assist from
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater).
Ten minutes later,
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central) scored on the power play off passes from
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield) and
Nicole Schaub (Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) to knot the game at two apiece.
The Gusties took control of the third period, scoring two more power-play goals and an empty netter with 30 seconds remaining in the game to seal the 5-2 victory.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) recorded 19 saves in the loss while Gustavus' Marah Sobczak tallied 22.
UWSP (6-4-2) will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 10 when it travels to Mendota Heights, Minn., to take on the University of St. Thomas. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
