Men’s hockey takes down St. Olaf 2-1

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team continued its winning ways this weekend, coming away with a 2-1 victory over St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn.

After a scoreless first period, the Pointers got on the board thanks to a shorthanded goal by Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL/Ursuline) with an assist from Kyle Politz (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley).
 
The lead was short-lived for the Pointers, as St. Olaf tied the game several minutes later when the Oles' Kevin Harris found the back of the net off an assist from Jeff Harris.
 
The Pointers took the lead for good in the third when Meo scored again at the 5:27 mark. Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) and Max Bobrow (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) were credited with assists on the game-winner.
 
Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) tallied 16 saves in the victory while St. Olaf's Ben Lois had 22 saves.
 
UWSP (8-7-2, 4-4-2 NCHA) returns to the ice Jan. 13-14 for a weekend series against St. Scholastica at K.B. Willett Arena. Game time both nights is set for 7 p.m.
